BareBones WorkWear® has been family-owned and operated since 1998, when founder Stu Nelson built the business from the ground up in Sacramento. What started as a trunk full of coveralls has grown into a 10-location retail chain serving California’s hardest-working people, and a growing e-commerce operation that ships nationwide.
We’re not a startup, and we’re not a big-box chain. We know exactly who we are and where we’re going. Over the past several years we’ve partnered with outside consultants and development firms to build out our digital infrastructure: our website, inventory systems, POS integrations, and internal tooling.
Those projects have moved us a long way forward. Now we’re at a point where we want one exceptional engineer in-house: someone who can own the technical roadmap, work across the full stack, and bring the kind of initiative that outside contractors never quite can.
Job Summary
Software Engineer
We’re open to either arrangement, and we mean that genuinely.
The work ahead of us is substantial, but it’s also modular. Some of it is project-based: rebuild the storefront, integrate the AI recommendation engine, wire up the data pipeline. Other parts are ongoing: maintain integrations, support the team, iterate on tooling. A full-time engineer digs into all of it from day one.
A part-time engineer who’s the right fit, say, a senior developer with consulting commitments or someone intentionally working reduced hours, will take longer to get through the roadmap, and we’re at peace with that tradeoff if the quality and ownership are there.
What we won’t do is hire a full-time body just to fill a seat. If the best candidate available wants 10 hours a week, we’d rather have them than a mediocre full-timer. Compensation and scope will be structured accordingly.
