We are seeking an experienced Business Development Manager with agency-side experience in medical communications or life sciences to drive new client acquisition across the U.S. pharmaceutical and biotechnology markets.

This role is specifically focused on winning business from pharmaceutical and biotech companies for specialized medical communications services. The ideal candidate has a proven track record of developing agency relationships with senior leaders in Medical Affairs and Medical Information, identifying client needs, and converting opportunities into new business.

Experience working with small, emerging, or mid-sized pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities

Identify, engage, and win new pharmaceutical and biotechnology clients for medical communications services.

Build relationships with Heads, VPs, Directors, and other senior stakeholders in Medical Affairs and Medical Information.

Develop new business opportunities through targeted outreach, industry relationships, networking, and in-person meetings.

Manage the full business development cycle, from prospecting and discovery through proposals, negotiation, and closing.

Understand client needs and position specialized medical and scientific communications solutions accordingly.

Represent the organization at relevant pharmaceutical, biotech, and medical communications industry events.

Location & Working Arrangements

Must currently reside in California.

Remote home-office setup with regular field-based client meetings, networking, and industry events.

Willingness to travel within California and elsewhere in the U.S. as business needs require.

A reliable computer, high-speed internet, webcam, headset, and professional workspace are required.

Compensation

Base salary: $120,000–$160,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications, plus performance-based incentives.

Application Process

Applicants must complete the application form, pre-screening questionnaire, and one-way video interview. A background check will be required for shortlisted candidates, subject to applicable requirements.

Requirements

What We're Looking For

5+ years of business development experience, preferably within a medical communications, healthcare communications, scientific communications, or closely related life sciences agency.

Demonstrated success personally generating and closing new B2B business with pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology companies.

Direct experience engaging senior stakeholders in Medical Affairs and/or Medical Information.

A strong understanding of how pharmaceutical and biotech companies work with external medical communications agency partners.

Experience developing new accounts, with a preference for candidates who have worked with small, emerging, or mid-sized pharma and biotech companies.

Excellent consultative selling, relationship-building, presentation, negotiation, and communication skills.

A self-directed, commercially minded approach and the ability to work effectively in a remote environment.

Important: This is an agency-side business development role. Experience limited to pharmaceutical product sales, brand management, commercial marketing, or selling unrelated services to pharmaceutical companies will not, on its own, meet the requirements.
