Description
Join our innovative team as a Senior Principal Software Engineer, where you will play a pivotal role in pioneering unmanned and autonomous ship technologies for the US Government. This position is based in Arlington, VA, and you'll be integrated into an Agile Scrum team responsible for designing, developing, and testing cutting-edge software that drives critical maritime programs.
In this role, you will be instrumental in converting existing vessels into autonomous platforms and aiding in the conception and deployment of new ships.

- Modeling & Simulation for verification and software testing
Your Key Responsibilities
- Analyze, design, develop, and enhance software for new features and improved performance.
- Engage actively in the complete software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering and design through implementation, testing, and deployment.
- Lead small projects as a technical expert, providing guidance and ensuring high technical standards.
- Mentor and support junior engineers, promoting professional development and enhancing team skills.
- Conduct peer reviews of software, ensuring quality, maintainability, and best practices are upheld.
- Champion continuous process improvement, collaborating with the team to enhance workflows, tools, and engineering methods.
- Support field tests by evaluating results and translating findings into actionable software enhancements.
- Communicate directly with client stakeholders, effectively conveying technical progress, risks, and solutions.
- Be prepared for occasional travel (up to 25%) to assist with field testing, client interactions, and program milestones.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or STEM field with 12+ years of professional software development experience, or 10+ years with a Master's degree.
- Proficiency in data structures.
- Professional experience in C++ and Linux development.
- Strong understanding of the Linux operating system.
- Experience with software source control and configuration management tools.
- Significant team collaboration experience, including mentoring and guiding other developers.
- Knowledge in one or more areas such as high availability, sensor fusion, target tracking, path planning, communication systems, or military integration.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with the Atlassian tool suite (Jira, Confluence).
- Experience with automated build processes (Bamboo, Jenkins).
- Proficiency in Java and front-end development frameworks.
- Knowledge of relational databases like Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MariaDB, or Microsoft SQL Server.
- Experience with Python.
- Ability to design complex systems while addressing performance and user requirements.
- Understanding of interface communication standards/protocols such as TCP/IP, UDP, and DDS.
- Familiarity with game theory, artificial intelligence, petri nets, and safety-critical software.
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes for containerization and automation.
- Proficient in simulating complex systems with extensive datasets to ensure efficient processing and accurate modeling outcomes.
- Ability to apply vector geometry concepts for spatial analysis and problem-solving in simulations.
- Active Secret Security Clearance is a plus.
