Founded in 2018 and headquartered in Austin, Texas, INS Engineering is a privately held power systems engineering firm with offices in Houston and Albany, New York. We help utilities, developers, grid operators and data center teams connect new generation, energy storage and large loads to the grid, from studies through commissioning, across all major U.S. power markets.
Our work has supported projects like a 400 MW / 1 GWh battery storage facility in Texas and a 100 MW solar project in Ohio. We’re a growing, remote team that regularly gets together in person, guided by three values: Reliability, Innovation and Commitment. Our senior engineers mentor the next generation, and we stay with clients from kickoff to commissioning.

Develop and expand strategic client relationships in the Midwest and Central U.S., with particular emphasis on MISO and relevant PJM customers.
We welcome established technical business developers and electrical engineers seeking a move into commercial leadership. Technical credibility, relationships, curiosity and the ability to earn trust matter more than a conventional sales title or fixed years of business development experience.
Originate new client relationships and grow existing accounts, alongside INS engineering teams, with utilities, developers, EPCs, independent power producers, large-load and data center customers.
Develop a sustainable regional pipeline, support account expansion and deliver measurable revenue growth.
Develop a targeted prospecting strategy, including cold outreach to new accounts, and build lasting relationships with technical and commercial decision-makers.
Represent INS at in-person client visits, conferences and industry events; maintain accurate CRM records and opportunity forecasts.
Identify customer challenges and connect opportunities to INS capabilities in studies, interconnection, transmission/distribution, substations, protection and control, SCADA and automation, and commissioning.
Partner with engineering leaders on discovery meetings, scopes, proposals, account planning and commercial pursuits.
Electrical engineering degree or substantial hands-on electrical/power engineering experience strongly preferred.
Ability to discuss technical engineering services credibly with utilities, EPCs, developers and engineering stakeholders.
Established relationships or demonstrable market knowledge in MISO and PJM utilities, developers, EPCs and grid-related buyers strongly preferred.
A personable, approachable and driven communicator who builds trust with engineering clients, with commercial curiosity and willingness to prospect.
Ability to travel approximately 25–50%, including occasional consecutive weeks, depending on client needs.
Traditional sales/BD experience is welcome but not required; engineers with strong client-facing potential can build BD skills with INS.
Experience navigating MISO interconnection, transmission planning, utility procurement or regional developer relationships.
Familiarity with steady-state/EMT studies, BESS and renewable integration, protection and control, substations or SCADA.
Prior work in power engineering consulting, utilities, IPPs, renewables, data centers or EPC firms.
Don’t check every box? If you meet most of the requirements and this role excites you, we encourage you to apply.
First 30 days: You’ve learned INS’s core services and capabilities alongside our engineering leaders, met in person with your key existing accounts, set up your CRM, and built a target account list for the Midwest / Central (MISO and relevant PJM) market. You’ve already started outreach and booked your first prospect meetings.
60 days: You’re meeting with clients and prospects every week, have fully taken over the existing accounts you’ll grow, and are identifying expansion opportunities within them. You’re attending industry events and building visibility in the regional market.
90 days: You have an active pipeline of qualified opportunities, you’re partnering with engineering on your first proposals, and you’ve secured at least one expanded scope or new-client win.
6 months: You’re consistently converting pipeline into new-client wins and expanded scopes, your existing accounts are growing, and clients see you as their go-to contact at INS.
12 months: You’ve established a trusted presence in the regional market, you’re meeting or exceeding the goals set with leadership, your book of business is growing steadily, and your forecasting is accurate.
Specific revenue goals and performance expectations are established internally with leadership.
This is a remote role based anywhere in the United States, with a Midwest / Central market focus; demonstrated market familiarity matters more than where you live. Expect approximately 25–50% travel (around 45% anticipated), including occasional consecutive weeks, depending on client needs.
We hire good people, give them the tools and support they need, and trust them to do great work, with no micromanagement. Your ideas are heard and your contributions are recognized. We work remotely and make time to reconnect in person at team gatherings, where families are welcome too. You’ll work alongside experienced Ph.D.
and P.E. engineers who invest in mentorship, training and knowledge-sharing, and as INS grows, there’s real room to grow with the company.
Annual base salary: $90,000–$160,000, depending on relevant experience, technical expertise and qualifications, plus a competitive commission opportunity subject to the company’s approved written commission plan.
